Curd
Everybody is familiar with curd, which is one of the most versatile of health and beauty promoting foods. Role of Diet in Youthful Looks
In the words of Marks Twain “When your friends begin to flatter you on how young you look, it is a sure sign you are getting old”, Medical research over the years confirms that with the help of a proper diet and regular exercise, one can slow down the biological clock and slow down the different symptoms of ageing.

Obesity is one of the signs of ageing. It not only ruins your personality and good looks, but is linked with many health problems too. This is an accepted fact that overweight people are prone to diseases like hypertension, diabetes, cancer, cardiac problems and others such as osteoporosis, arthritis etc. They are common in overweight people because the joints and bones wear off faster with the extra load they hate to carry.

Our food consumption is guided more by habit than by actual need. This extra food results in a gradual weight gain as the age advances. It is estimated than an extra hundred Calories come from protein foods, thirty percent from fats and the remaining from complex carbohydrates.

The first golden rule while selecting foods is to choose foods which provide ‘quality’ calories and not employ calories e.g. between potato chips and a vegetable sandwich, the sandwich is more nutritious because it contains important vitamins and minerals. One should not take fried snacks and sweets. You should be away from the Cholesterol-rich foods, saturated fats and sugars. Besides, include plenty of high fibre foods such as whole grain cereals, legumes, fruits in your daily diet. Fibre absorbs water and gives you a feeling of fullness with fewer calories. Cereals and legumes are also good sources of starch, which release energy slowly and steadily and thereby help you to remain active and youthful.

One’s aim should be to maintain a normal and steady body weight. This can be achieved by having periodic weight checks. One of the main symptoms of the advancing year is lowered resistance to illness. A nourished diet and regular exercises offer protection and give stamina to resist illness.

Remember, anti-oxidants are a group of three vitamins which help in neutralising the free radicals, which damage the normal healthy cells of the body. These nutrients are beta-carotene, ascorbic acid and vitamin E. Thus, it is believed that foods such as legumes, nuts, vegetable oils, fish, etc. which contain vitamin E, dark green and deep yellow vegetables which gives us beta-carotene and citrus fruits which are rich in vitamin C boost the immune system and protect us from diseases.

Vitamins do not provide energy but act like Catalysts for the biochemical reactions that takes place in the body. They are also necessary for the normal working of the body.

By taking proper diet and exercises we can delay the ageing process to a certain extent.

A youthful healthy, fit body and a positive mental attitude helps to age gracefully. Looking young and robust for a longer time is always the perennial dream of everyone. So one should understand the role of diet and by following them try to fulfil the dream.
