A balanced diet is what we need for maintaining a harmony within our body. A well-balanced diet that provides the body with sufficient energy is what keeps the human body in the pink of health and beauty. A diet consisting of minerals, proteins, vitamins, fibre and of course, pure and clean drinking water helps regulate the functioning of the body process and provides the body with due resistance against infections.

Certain fruits, vegetables and food products are essentially good for healthy and beautiful looks. These include fruits especially oranges, green vegetables, curd, buttermilk, honey and turmeric. Let us see how each one is important for a balanced diet to maintain good health and beauty.

Fruits
Fruits should form an essential part of one's diet as they play an important role in one's beauty care. They also provide the ingredients for many tried and tested skin care recipes.

Orange
Orange is one of the finest gifts of nature. It is a very delicious and nourishing fruit that is most widespread of the citrus fruits. Orange juice taken regularly gives a blemish free, beautiful petal soft skin and when mixed with sandalwood and Fuller's earth powder works wonders on pigmented skin.

Here is a herbal home remedy for removing enlarged pores. Dry orange peel in shade and powder it finely. Mix about 1/4 teaspoon of this powder with a few drops of rose water and apply to the face and neck. Wash it off with cold water after about 20 minutes.

Make it a habit to eat and use fresh juicy oranges and improve your skin health, beauty and longevity.

Apricot
Rich in vitamin A, apricots are extremely good for the skin, though high in calorie content. The apricot face mask is especially beneficial in getting rid of superfluous hair.

Lemon
Lemon is regarded as the youth restorative. It helps create youthful health. To help cleanse blemished skin, the area should be rubbed with a fresh piece of lemon. The juice should be soaked into the skin, allowing it to remain overnight. Strained fresh lemon juice mixed with cool water should be used to wash the hair to add brightness. Dry or scaly skin should be rubbed with a peel of a lemon. It will restore the skin to softness. Rough elbows can be soften by rubbing the area with the cut side of lemon.

Lime
Lime can also be used as a beauty aid. A fresh lime may be squeezed in a fully boiled glassful of whole milk. A teaspoonful of glycerine may be added to it. It should be left for half an hour and then applied to the face, hands and feet before retiring at night. This application every night will help one to look young and beautiful. The application can also cure pimples, cracked soles and palms, dryness of the face and hands.

Massaging a few drops of lime juice with amla juice every night before going to bed, stops falling of hair, lengthens them and prevents them from premature greying. It also cures dandruff.

Green Vegetables

Green vegetables are an important food group which supply the necessary vitamins and minerals in liberal measure. One ought to have vegetables like spinach, mint, coriander, fenugreek leaves, cabbage, lettuce, the green tops of root vegetables. Green leafy vegetables are a major source of vitamin A which is an essential nutrient required by the body. It keeps the skin healthy and glowing and the eyesight bright.
