Here are a few home remedies that can be put to use for common ailments. The remedies are easy to procure and easy to use.


Many minor conditions can be treated at home with a few home remedies made of products commonly available at every home. These remedies are easy to make and procure immidiate relief. Here are a few of these remedies that can be put to use for common ailments.

For quick relief from mouth ulcers, smear them with a mixture of butter and sugar.

To stop recurring hiccups, chew a few tulsi leaves mixed with sugar.

To keep bad breath away, gargle with water that has been boiled with methi leaves.

Add one teaspoon of fenugreek seed to hot cooked rice. Tie in a piece of muslin and foment your back to relieve backache.

If you want quick relief from a cold, drink a mixture of two teaspoons of honey, one teaspoon of ginger juice and one teaspoon of betel leaf juice. You can drink some warm water after that. Take this thrice a day and the cold shall disappear in no time.

To stop gums from bleeding after tooth extraction, press a cool, moist tea bag against them.

If you suffer from insomnia, take a teaspoon of cumin powder mixed with the pulp of a ripe banana to induce sleep at night.

When a tablet or a capsule gets stuck in the throat while swallowing, eat a bite of banana and drink half a cup of water, the tablet will go down smoothly.

For menstrual complaints and white discharge, take a ripe banana, a little powder of gooseberry, a little honey and sugar. Eat this daily for a few days.

In case of snake bites and other stings take strong solution of ammonia and apply it to the sore.

For ulcers in the mouth, make coarse powder of Teera and sugar candy and chew it twice a day.

Mango helps in cure of asthma, cough with sputum and other respiratory problems.For chronic headache mix cooking salt with equal measure of sugar. Take the mixture regularly till the headache subsides.

Castor also treats Elephantiasis. For this, roots of shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) are boiled in castor oil for some time and filtered. The filtrate is massaged slowly on the affected part.

To keep your blood sugar under control, mix a little asafoetida powder in two teaspoon of fresh karela (bitter-gourd) juice and take it every morning for two months.

For immediate relief from gum pains, chew a few jasmine leaves.

For br**st rigidity: Castor leaves are pressed and churned in vinegar and then applied on the br**st or the mammary glands. The br**st become rigid only after two to three applications.

Headaches can easily be cured by the massage of castor-oil on the forehead.

To treat brittle and weak nails, beat one teaspoon egg yolk with two teaspoon pineapple juice and beat it well. Soak your nails in this for about fifteen minutes and then wash.

To treat burning sensation of eyes during summer, place cotton wool soaked in goat’s milk on the eyes.

To prevent eyes from watering while cutting onions, burn a candle nearby. The heat from the candle flame decomposes the sulphur compounds in the onion vapours before they affect your eyes.
